Remember Magic: A Fairy Tale Lesson we Missed

‘Once Upon a time and long long ago…’  That phrase–the ultimate beginning of every story–still makes gets me excited to go on a wondrous adventure. Into the fairy tale!  My favorite fairy tale of all time is Sleeping Beauty. Not everybody’s favorite because of the serious consent issues around a Prince kissing a sleeping Princess, but I see a deeper lesson that we have been missing all along.

Because my father was a musician, I became acquainted with Sleeping Beauty through Tchaikovsky’s music of the same name. For Christmas, in grade 5, I was given a book and record set with her story narrated and set to music. I can still recall lying on the floor on my belly, with my chin on my hands and my ear plastered to the speaker. Over and over I listened to the exquisite music and narration of what happened to Princess Aurora.

I felt like I was there at the Princess’ christening celebration when Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather – her three fairy godmothers – gave their gifts to her. The fear engendered by the spectacular and unwanted appearance of the wicked fairy Maleficentas (or as we know her Maleficent) as she delivered her gift was almost palpable. Beware the spinning wheel! I conjured up all these images in great detail lying there on the living room floor in front of the record player.

Then, you know the story!  We grow up and we get a life, and we don’t believe in Fairy tales anymore.  That’s little girl stuff. We’re big now and we know better.  We prick our fingers on the needle of adulthood, and magic dies in us as we adopt the big girl personas that our culture defines for us.

I was no exception. I grew up, forgot magic, and headed off to New York City to become a swinging single. Life happened and off I went white-water rafting through the adventures of real life.

Many years passed and then something happened. I was drawn back into fairy tales by none other than the Fairy Godmother, herself.

I had begun to wonder about Fairy Godmothers. Specifically, what is their role in the stories?  Maybe my thoughts went down this path because I was getting to be what I suspected was the Fairy Godmother age.

My pressing question was: “What’s in it for Fairy Godmothers?” WHY do they help Princesses?

The Power of Fairy Tales to Help Us Remember

The Sleeping Beauty fairy tale became a trail of breadcrumbs that I followed. Eventually, this turned into a literal trail of stones (which you can read all about in my book, Decoding the Butterfly Promise) that lead me on an amazing journey of exploration into the inner realms and memory banks of humanity.

I was on a search for the essence, the truth behind these amazing stories. I connected with my own Godmother who prepared me to enter these realms and bring back what I have come to believe is the original story behind our Prince and Princess fairy tales. My entire journey and all my discoveries have been laid out in my book.

What I found out was a shock to me. First off, our Fairy Godmother isn’t a “was”, she’s an “is”! She is real! She is now!

We really do have a Fairy Godmother, Virginia!

Not only that, but she was tickled pink to tell me how she got to be who she is and why she’s been here all these years helping sleeping princesses to awaken and helping trapped princes to fight the demons. Really!

That’s the good news. The bad news is we grew up and stopped believing in magic and so we haven’t been able to hear our fairy godmothers’ urgings to awaken. So, for the first part of the journey, until we remember magic, we are on our own—sort of.

Magic Wands and Remembering Magic

This is a good place to explain a few more details.  Magic isn’t magic, it’s stuff that happens in the other realm or dimensions that we can’t see because of our slower energy vibration. It’s like the sounds that only dogs can hear but humans can’t.

So, Virginia, Fairy Godmothers, AND magic exist!  Really powerful magic!  But we have to raise our vibrational energy back to the time when we were children and lived in the world of the right brain—the open and creative brain.  All the baggage that has come with adulthood, sentence us to the world of the left and logical brain, dragging our vibrational energy down.

door between worlds

One of the keys to the door between our world and the fairy tale kingdom is to raise our vibrational energy enough to be able to enter the fairy tale kingdom. Entering the fairy tale kingdom is just a metaphor for entering the spaces and dimensions where beings with higher vibrational energy frequency live.

The next key is to simply open our heart and believe. The doorway into our right brain, our spiritual invisible Self, is reached through an open heart. And in that space, we know all, are all and see all—including the fairy tale kingdom and its magic.

In the meantime, whilst we have been dreaming away our lives in the busy realm of the left brain, our fairy godmothers have been busy. They represent the wisdom of the right brain, the all-knowingness.  Yep, Fairy Godmothers have been representing the Goddess and the feminine aspect of Source in a way that we could understand.

So even though we can’t hear them, they have still been sending us messages through whatever channels they can. They have been telling and retelling us something really important.

REMEMBER MAGIC!

That’s what they whisper. The story of humanity and what became of us before our energies were dragged down, and we largely lost our right brain selves. That is the story that has been preserved by our Fairy Godmothers and their fairy tales. In books, songs, stories, dance, all forms of art – all through the ages. They are waiting for the Sleeping Beauty in each of us (regardless of our gender) to awaken.

OK, so who then is Sleeping Beauty?  She is our inner feminine self who was put to sleep by something equally as nasty as Maleficent. That Maleficent could be a person in our past, or something abstract like social conditioning—or most likely a combination of both.

The time for sleep is over. Simply put, its wake-up time. But true love isn’t what wakes us up. That kind of thinking is backward, literally.

First, we wake ourselves up, then we find true love.

Fairy Godmothers have been here reminding us of our wholeness, something we misplaced along the way. Our Fairy Godmothers don’t use left brain factual logical evidence. They speak directly to our right brain and spiritual side in a way that we get automatically. When we raise our vibrational energy available enough, we can actually hear them.

The package of words associated with each story is our Fairy Godmother encouraging us to seek the fairy tale land, where our authentic spiritual powers live.  Once we wake up and take that journey, we begin to remember who we really are and why we came here.

And the best discovery of all is that the Fairy Godmothers are not some external entity trying to tell us who and what to be. They are US! When we awaken, we remember ourselves! Our true, whole selves.

We have been whispering to ourselves the whole time. Isn’t that a perfect ending and a wonderful beginning to a new story?

Gail is a social scientist and change consultant to governments and corporations. Midway through her career, her understanding of change was put to the test as she plunged headfirst into an incredible spiritual journey that led her to the ancient record and revealed the hidden story of an ancient divine couple split apart and held hostage by a dark energy whose mission is to control humanity. She shares this story in her book Decoding the Butterfly Promise.

She is currently working on book two, The Divine Duet, which chronicles what has happened to humanity as a consequence of this divine separation, and the recent shift in human consciousness that will allow the couple to reunite. Each of us will have a role to play in this reunion. If we allow ourselves to awaken our quantum selves, we can help to release the ancient couple, and drive away the dark energy.
